10 Winter Covid-Friendly Date Ideas
The weather is getting colder, limiting covid-friendly activities, and thereby cramping our dating style. David and I survived the summer by eating out on open-air patios and taking long walks by the lake but that just won’t be possible over the next couple months SO it’s time to get creative! I rounded up some unique date night ideas that will help keep the spark alive and give you things to look forward to this season (these ideas are also great for those quarantine-ing with family or friends).
Have a game night
Choose one game to spend the night playing or plan a tournament with a bunch of classics. I grew up playing dominos with my family and now David and I love to play together (can you guess who’s more competitive?!).
Cook a meal together
Cooking is actually one of our favorite things to do together! Pick out a special recipe, put on some Christmas music, and pour yourselves a big glass of wine (linking our favorite red wine here). Taking an everyday task like cooking and doing it together really boosts the romance and turns making dinner into spending quality time.
Order take-out for a candle-lit picnic
Support your local businesses and make a date-night out of it! David and I have found ourselves doing this a lot but we make it special by laying a bunch of blankets on the floor, lighting some candles and having a picnic right in our living room.
Host a virtual double date
This is a great way to connect with each other and with some friends (social distancing style). Have each couple bring their favorite drink and plan some virtual-friendly games to play together over zoom!
Plan a future weekend getaway
For those of us suffering from severe travel itch, this is a great date-night activity! Make a list of all the places you want to go and things you want to see once travel restrictions loosen up. If you have a specific location in mind, make a list of activities you’d like to do there, research unique accommodations and the best restaurants so that once we can travel, you’ll have your first trip already planned!
Christmas movie marathon
What is better than a day filled with Christmas movies?! Just add lots of chunky blankets and hot chocolate for a perfect, snuggly date for two. Some of our favorite Christmas movies are: Christmas Vacation, Four Christmases, The Holiday, and Illumination’s The Grinch.
Organize a spa day together
Who needs a spa when you have each other?! Get some fancy scented lotion and take turns giving each other massages or whip up some home-made face-masks and pamper that skin. David loves when I let him use my jade roller on his face (he says it makes him feel very fancy - lol.)
Drive around the Christmas lights
If you just need to get out of the house (a.k.a me every single day), go see some Christmas lights! Whether you go to a drive-thru light show or just drive around your neighborhood, make sure to grab a Starbucks and turn up the Christmas radio extra loud!
Have a gingerbread house decorating competition
Turn this classic holiday activity into a friendly competition or join forces to make the BEST gingerbread house ever. Either way, it’s a great holiday activity to do together (extra points for the most frosting).
Meet up for happy hour
You can make your everyday, evening drink feel a little more intentional if you plan a time to “meet up” in the dining room (say five o’clock), bust out the cheese and crackers , and a mix-up a new cocktail recipe together.
