Our 2023 Project List

Here it is! This is our list of projects that we aim to have completed this year. From simple updates to larger projects, we are planning on doing a little bit of everything and I’m excited to bring you all along!

  1. Mudroom Refresh

My mudroom is getting a few updates which includes a fresh coat of paint! I’ve decided after a year of living in our home that I would like the entire room — walls, trim and doors —to be painted the same color as our built-in cabinetry (Sherwin-Williams Black of Night). I also plan on taking on a little DIY project by installing a peg rack for extra hanging space.

2. Exterior Update: Phase 1

This is the project I am probably most excited to start! The exterior of our colonial home has had a few updates over the years but we’re hoping to give it a much-needed facelift with a few fresh improvements. This spring we will replace the damaged, outdated front door with a beautiful double door and hang new shutters. I also hope to upgrade the existing white gutters to more luxe, long-lasting gutters in a darker color. These upgrades will add more curb appeal and charm to our historic home — I’m drooling already!

3. Backyard Landscaping

This past Fall we finished our patio but this Spring we are hoping to add some more dimension to our backyard by adding landscaping (picture: lots of boxwoods and hydrangeas). The end goal is to feel like we’ve been transported to a lovely english garden. We also want to add some lighting around the backyard and the front of our house. Our neighborhood is pretty dark and with a dog, having extra lighting is great for safety!

4. Primary Closet

Our primary closet is basically an empty box. When we renovated the upstairs, we built on an addition to create a larger primary bathroom and this allowed us to turn the existing bathroom space into a small walk-in closet! After the major renovation, we lacked the time, energy, and budget to do anything fancy in here so we bought some standing clothes racks and called it a day. After a year, our current situation is just not cutting it for us and I am more than ready to get this closet looking pretty and feeling functional. In my head, I see us installing floor to ceiling cabinets to maximize the storage space, adding a mirror, and hangin some pretty wallpaper.

5. Sunroom Built-in

Our sunroom off the kitchen is what I am calling a “slow-burn” project but this year I am hoping to install a beautiful built-in coffee bar on the right-hand wall that will add some much needed storage and functionality to the space. I want to do a moody cabinet color, some textured backsplash and fun countertops to compliment the english-cottage vibes of our kitchen.

6. Laundry/Basement Organization

Our basement/laundry room is unfinished and frankly, quite scary (if any of you live in an old home you know what I mean). Since we moved in, the basement has become a dumping ground for boxes, holiday decorations, extra furniture, tools and clothing. Although renovating the basement into a functional playroom/media room is a project for 2024, I would love to start organizing the space and making it feel a little less scary.

This is our list and I’m really pumped to get started. I think having a clearer picture of what we want to accomplish this year will help us to plan out our projects in a more organized, manageable way. Here’s to another great year of loving on our home and bringing you all along with us!
