Design Trend: Checkerboard Floors + Where We’re Using Them in the New House!
When we made the decision to renovate our primary bathroom in the new house, I knew without a doubt I wanted to incorporate checkerboard floors into the design plan!
Checkerboard floors have been gaining popularity in mainstream design lately, but this staple pattern has been a classic choice for centuries and never truly goes out of style. The history of the checkerboard floor can be dated all the way back to the ancient Egyptian temples and has been used over and over again in French country houses and 1950s American diners. I love the versatility of checkerboard floors and how many different ways they can be used throughout a home!
here are a few modern takes on checkerboard floors that I LOVE:
With all the information and inspiration I gathered, I decided to order a few checkered tile floor samples from Marble Online. They have really great prices for marble floor tiles plus their customer service is super responsive — always a win!
I ended up ordering a sample of their Bardiglio Gray Marble tile and Carrara White Marble tile both in a honed finish, which I definitely prefer over the polished look. Since the checkered tiles will be installed in both the bathroom floor and inside the shower, the honed finish will also be less slippery when wet.
I’m really loving the cool tones (almost blue?!) of the grey tile and the soft veining of the white Carrara tile! In such a small space ( the entire bathroom is only about 125 square feet) I think the checkerboard floors will really pack a punch and add an unexpected level of fun to this room we will use SO often!
I cannot wait to see our bathroom transform with the classic, timeless vibe of these checkerboard floor tiles! What do you guys think of this classic design “trend” ?
