Dining Room Update: Where We Started Vs. Where We Stand Today!

It’s been awhile since I’ve given an update on our dining room and since this project is moving along slower than I had originally hoped, I thought it would be a good time to look back and remember how far we’ve come in this little room!

Where we started:

This room started out as a plain-jane space right off the front entryway with yellow paint and zero character. When we renovated the house we replaced the original floors with engineered white oak in a herringbone pattern and added more spice by installing wainscoting around the perimeter of the room. We painted all the trim and the ceiling in the super moody paint color BM Blue Note to highlight the pretty millwork details.

I found both the amazing antique table and dining chair set from Facebook Marketplace and decided to take on the project of reupholstering the seat cushions myself! Scroll down to see how it looks today.

Where We Stand Today:

I am very proud to say our little DIY reupholstery project is finally finished and the chairs really do look brand new. Although I’m not sure my sore fingers would agree, the project was more time-consuming than difficult and was definitely worth the effort! For those looking to take on this DIY project, Im working on writing up a tutorial for you to try it yourself. I love the rich velvet color of the fabric (gifted from Calico Corners) and how it contrasts with the navy wainscoting — its like a little surprise every time you pull out a chair!

I also got incredibly exciting news that our wallpaper from House of Hackney has shipped and will be delivered in the next week ! I made the unfortunate mistake of mis-measuring the room and not ordering enough wallpaper and then it went on backorder (of course) so we’ve been in limbo waiting for the second half of the materials to arrive. HOWEVER, our wallpaper guy is on standby by ready to install as soon as it comes in and know it will be WELL worth he wait.
