Velvet is one of my absolute favorite materials to use throughout our home - and I use it a-lot! It’s a gorgeous, luxe fabric that works beautifully for pillows and curtains but it is also one of the most durable fabrics out there which makes it great for upholstery. I’ve been seeing velvet of all colors popping up more and more on Pinterest and Instagram recently but like most current “trends,” velvet has been around for a long time and I believe it’s here to stay!

In our office, we installed these large rosemary green built-ins and I wanted an office chair that would both compliment the stunning green shade and stand up to everyday use. The burnt auburn color of this desk chair captured my heart and the soft velvet fabric makes working from home super cozy.

In Axel’s nursery, we let the hunter green curtains be the primary source of color in his otherwise neutral room. The elegant drapery of his curtains add so much character to the space and the blackout liner is functional for naps and bedtime!

We reupholstered our vintage dining chairs and I chose a high-performance magenta velvet. The durable fabric will stand up to food spills and the magenta shade is an unexpected contrast with the blue and green color palette of the room. . Every time we pull out a chair, it’s like a little surprise!

I definitely have a thing for green velvet because we chose the olive green FARLOV loveseat from Ikea for our living room sofa. It has the high-end look without and the designer price tag and all the stain-resistant qualities of a performance fabric.

I think in the past, people thought of velvet as seasonal fabric only, but I am a true supporter of embracing velvet all year round!

I shopped around and rounded up some of my favorite velvet products for you to incorporate in your own home —including this amazing chocolate brown velvet armchair I hope to style in our sunroom! Whether it is a throw pillow or a desk chair, I challenge you to try including this fabric in your next room refresh.
