How to Style Your Mantel in 5 Easy Steps

mantle styling were the whites

I’m a hugeeee sucker for a good fireplace  - I mean who isn’t?! Fireplaces are the ideal focal point of a room and the perfect cozy gathering place for family and friends. The gorgeous brick mantel you see above is one of the main reasons I fell in love with our apartment (can you blame me?!) You can shop our entire home here.

I believe that styling a mantle is a great way to keep your space feeling fresh throughout the seasons and is the perfect opportunity to reflect your own personality and design style. This being said, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed at styling such a main architectural feature “the right way.”

Below I am outlining 5 steps + lots of mantle inspo that will get you styling like a pro and ensure your mantel is looking fresh all year long:

Step 1: Pick an Anchor

An anchor is a large object that acts as the main focal point and creates a foundation for your styled mantel. An oversized mirror, large piece of artwork, or wreath are all great starting points. I personally love using a big mirror to make a room feel more open and airy.

Step 2: Add Height

Adding varying levels of height is a super important step that creates interest. My favorite way to add height is to arrange candlesticks or use varying levels of stacked books.

Step 3: Arrange Florals

Florals and other organic elements bring life and vibrance to your mantle. To ensure your mantle feels fresh all year long, change out greenery to coordinate with the seasons (this is my favorite part).

Step 4: Choose Layers

To add more depth and visual interest, use other unique or personal details to create layers on your mantle. You can do this by using  layering family photos or smaller pieces of art that reflect your personality!

Step 5: Use Asymmetry

To avoid having a static arrangement, try utilizing asymmetry. Asymmetry creates a casual balance and gives character to your mantel.
