Our Primary Bathroom Moodboard

Our primary bathroom feels like an extra special bonus space because renovating it was definitely not part of the original plan! It was actually a happy accident with the downstairs plumbing that caused us to decide to move forward with the renovation. You can read more about our decision to move forward with the bathroom renovation here (along with some important renovation lessons we’ve learned over the past year).

When we were house-hunting, we quickly realized that finding a historic house with an en-suite was extremely hard to come by — en-suites were just not a thing 100 years ago! However, our house proved to be a diamond in the rough: it had a teeny tiny closet of a bathroom attached to the primary bedroom AND the ability to build out over the downstairs office.

We decided that eventually we would turn the existing bathroom into a walk-in closet and build an addition over the office that would become our primary bathroom. It just turns out, that “eventually” came a-lot quicker than we anticipated.

Once we decided to go ahead with the bathroom renovation, I was excited to create a design plan! From the get-go the one thing I KNEW I was going to implement were checkerboard floors — I’ve always loved the look of this classic black and white pattern and thought our bathroom would be the perfect place for it! You can get all the details about our checkerboard floors in this blog post.

The decision to go with a checkerboard floor provided a solid foundation for the rest of the bathroom finishes. I wanted to create space that felt traditional and “grown-up” with lots of texture and natural wood accents to add warmth. With some tweaks here and there, I think I’ve finally settled on a design that I LOVE and can really visualize how it will all come together!
