The Sunroom Moodboard

For the last year, the room right off the kitchen has been untouched since we wrapped up our renovations. We set up Axel’s playpen in here a few months ago and dragged in a few miscellaneous chairs but I’ve been avoiding making any more permanent design decisions.

The thing is, this room is my favorite and we spend a-lot of time in here which I think is why I’ve been dragging my feet— I just don’t want to mess up!

It gets the most beautiful sunshine throughout the day and the location right off the kitchen makes it a natural gathering space for family and friends. It’s also the perfect spot for us to supervise Axel while he plays so, it is time to give this room the love it deserves!

We are calling this space our sunroom because of the gorgeous natural light it gets all year-round, but my goal is to create a cozy sunroom.

For seating, I chose this performance fabric slipcovered sofa from Crate & Barrel and this gorgeous brown velvet armchair. I love that both pieces of furniture have a modern , masculine profile. To offset the modern seating, I’m adding traditional, brass sconces with pleated shades and a tufted faux-leather ottoman.

You know I love my vintage rugs, and so I am layering this beautiful brown vintage Persian rug in here. This one feels soft underfoot and will stand up to everyday traffic.

With zero closets on the main floor, the biggest hurdle in our historic home is finding ways to create more storage space. Therefore, the second phase of this room will include installing a built-in coffee bar/storage unit. The unit will have cabinets along the bottom for Axel’s toys, countertops for a coffee bar, and shelving along the top that will help clear up space in our kitchen for other storage needs.

I was super inspired by this built-in by Jean Stoffer and I’m obsessed with the unique blue/grey paint color. Instead of paint or wallpaper, my plan is to let the future built-in be the fun pop of color that adds interest in the space.

The plan is to tackle this room slowly and add to it in phases but it feels really good to have a design plan and creative direction for this special little room of ours! What do you think?!
