Our English-Cottage Inspired Kitchen Mood Board
You guys have loved seeing all the mood boards for our new house and I have truly loved making them! In the midst of a chaotic renovation, referring back to my mood boards has kept me from losing my mind on all the messy, everyday details and helped me “keep an eye on the prize” as they say! Our kitchen has already come such a long way (you can see some of the before pics in this blog post) and the closer we get the more excited I am to finally be able to cook a MEAL in our home…okay okay so David will be the one cooking but you get the point!
Our kitchen is going to have all the classic elements of a traditional, english-cottage style kitchen: a warm neutral color palette, inset cabinetry, mixed metals, organic materials like stained wood and natural stone, and a shiplap ceiling! Because the kitchen will truly be the heart of our home and the footprint for the space is not very big, I decided to embrace the coziness of the space and keep the design warm and inviting for our future guests.
Ready to see it?!

The center of our kitchen will have a large 8 ft. stained island topped with sea pearl quartzite. You can read more about our decision to use quartzite over marble in this post. Overall, I just love what the dramatic veining and cool grey/blue tones bring to the space (quartzite is also one of the most durable of natural stones). I chose to do the island in a warm, rich chestnut stain to emphasize the wood grain. Two 14” bronze pendants will hang over the island with three woven seagrass counter-stools sidled up to it. We’ve never had an island before and I already know it’s going to be the gathering place of our home.
The perimeter cabinets will be a creamy white color (Sherwin Williams Creamy) and, again, topped with sea pearl quartzite. We are planning on using a combination of three different types of hardware (knobs, cup pulls, and cupboard latches) in an unlaquered brass finish to achieve that timeless english-cottage “collected” feel. Our faucet is also in an unlaquered brass finish and I cannot wait to see it naturally patina over time.
To add even more character we plan on doing a plaster hood over our range and incorporating this zellige tile around our large kitchen window - I just love the texture it has! I actually love it SO much i decided to use it in our primary bathroom too.
So as of today, the perimeter cabinetry is installed, the countertops have been measured, and the appliances are scheduled for delivery on Halloween weekend. Fingers crossed this means we will have a functioning kitchen by the end of the month!
