Guest Bedroom Refresh + My Recipe for Making the Perfect Bed

Our guest bedroom has been pretty much left untouched since we moved into our home last Fall and has since become a landing place for random household items and laundry. We are expecting to host more guests in the upcoming months and this room is the first one you see as you walk up the stairs — all this to say, it was definitely time for a little sprucing up!

With all of the ongoing projects we have going on in the rest of the house (like our dining room project) the goal was to bring some brightness and color to the all-white bedroom quickly and on a budget. One of my favorite and easy ways to do this is with bedding.

I layered grey striped sheets, a creamy white linen duvet, a moss colored quilt and shams, and a textured throw blanket to bring the outside in to our guest bedroom. I also pulled up a woven rug from storage, hung this beautiful vintage art over the bed, placed some of my favorite antique pieces around the room and cut some hydrangeas from our yard to make it feel a little more “finished.”

I have big plans for this room in the future. I would love to install wallpaper (maybe stripes?) hang textured curtains and maybe add a cozy reading chair in the corner but for now, this room already feels so much more warm and inviting! Now who is coming to stay?!

My recipe for making the coziest, most inviting bed:

1. fitted sheet

2. flat sheet - put your sheets and blankets face-down so when you fold them over, the pretty side faces up

3. cotton blanket

4. double-stuffed duvet - use two duvet inserts for an extra full look

5. patterned quilt - I like to keep this folded at the end of the bed for chilly nights

6. textured throw - for extra texture
