Our Primary Bedroom: A Before and After (ish)

Today I am so excited to be sharing a before and after (ish) of our primary bedroom! I say “ish” because this room is not complete— far from it! But we have come a long way from the space it used to be and I think the progress deserves its’ rightful spot on the blog. You can check out the complete “before tour” of our home here.

This room started off as a pretty boring space (see the photo below). We put in air conditioning and replaced the windows which allowed us to remove the window AC units and let in ALL this gorgeous natural light. We also moved the radiator to the adjacent wall so we could have nightstands on either side of our bed.

Our bedrooms have always been white, so I went out of my comfort zone and painted the walls, trim, and doors Sherwin Williams Samovar Silver. The color feels fresh and serene and the painted trim feels so chic! For dimension we painted the walls in a matte finish and the trim and doors in a satin finish.

I fell in love with this black cottage bed from World Market (you can’t beat the price) and then splurged on these antique midcentury nightstands that feel super fancy and have so much storage. For now, I’m keeping our bedding simple with a soft white duvet and single green velvet throw pillow.

Our ceilings are only about 9 feet high so we installed these white linen curtains towards the top of the wall to draw the eye upwards and create an illusion of height.

There is a little vestibule that leads to our primary ensuite bathroom where we have a small walk-in closet and vanity area! The vanity area serves as our linen closet to store our extra towels and sheets and I use the countertop to display my jewelry and accessories.

The white oak built-in dresser matches the custom vanity we have in our bathroom and I chose to mix-match the hardware with a combination of unlaquered brass cup pulls and knobs to for a “collected” look.

I have been thinking it would be fun to add a little coffee area here to make my morning cup even easier to enjoy! What do you think?

So what’s left to do?

We still have to mount our tv on the opposite wall of our bed for late night Netflix binging. Right now it’s sitting on a rickety old dresser. I would also love to add a seating area in one of the empty corners of the room for reading.

Lastly, I mentioned we have a small walk-in closet that is completely empty. Adding a custom closet system would be an amazing and is definitely heading towards the top of our project to-do list!
