Our Kitchen Slabs and The Decision to go with Quartzite over Marble!
Any renovation progress that happens in our home gives us a reason to celebrate but our latest delivery has me literally jumping up and down for joy: our kitchen countertop slabs!
I recently shared our kitchen moodboard that encompasses my vision for our English-inspired kitchen. Since then, I’ve been scouring Pinterest and stalking the accounts of my favorite designers to find a way to make my vision come to life. The first step was deciding on a countertop material. David and I knew right off the bat we wanted to use a natural stone, so that took out materials like quartz and granite. From then on, we started to look at marble options. I had my heart and soul set on using a gorgeous calacatta marble throughout the kitchen — the unmatched beauty was a huge selling point for me — but the combination of high cost and porousness made it hard to pull the trigger. Finding out we had a baby on the way kind of decided it for us. We needed a more durable option that could withstand messy baby hands without sacrificing beauty. Enter: Quartzite.
Quartzite is a natural stone that is growing in popularity due to its’ extreme resistance to heat and durability. Although it still requires a certain level of upkeep, the maintenance is very low-key compared to marble and the cost per slab is lower. I immediately started to fall in love with the unique veining and once I saw Jean Stoffer use Quartzite in this kitchen, our decision was a no-brainer.
After a couple months of searching for the perfect slabs, we found these beautiful Sea Pearl Quartzite slabs from Aria Stone Gallery and knew they were meant to be in our home. These beauties will be the perfect complement to the neutral tones of our kitchen — I can hardly wait for them to get installed!
Below I shared some of my favorite saved images of spaces that have incorporated Quartzite and helped seal the deal for us. Scroll on through for all the drool-worthy inspiration.
