Our Timeless and Traditional Woodland Nursery Reveal
It’s hard to believe we started working on this nursery six months ago and now we’re in the thick of new parenthood with a two month old! When I originally created the moodboard for this room, I envisioned a cozy space filled with a mix of old and new elements that would give off a classic, timeless feel. A room that was so beautiful we wouldn’t mind spending most of our time in there. Now as David and I spend our days in here rocking Axel, changing diapers, and reading him books I can say we definitely accomplished that.
We have come a long way in the last six months and I’m excited to show you the finished product so let’s get to it…
Come on in!
Even before I was pregnant, I always loved this brass vintage-style crib and knew it would be the perfect addition to Axel’s nursery. I love that it has all the old world charm of an antique with all the best safety features of modern day!
My favorite part of the nursery is probably the combination of the wallpaper and the gallery wall above the crib. The wallpaper is sweet but mature enough to make sense in this room for years. As Axel grows, some of these frames will have to come down for safety reasons (hello, grabby hands) but for now, it’s a a beautiful focal point that holds a mix of treasures David and I have found on antiquing trips and vintage prints from some of my favorite print shops.
I think it’s always fun to use throw pillows to “make the bed.” Until Axel starts sleeping in here, they help the crib look finished. Fun fact: this green floral pillow cover was one of the first things I ever bought for the nursery!
It was super important for me to make this room feel layered and timeless so we mixed old and new elements throughout the nursery. We combined a brand new plaid rug and boucle glider with the most beautiful antique pine dresser and vintage brass mirror to achieve that “collected” feel. We hung the green velvet curtains all the way up to the ceiling to create the illusion of height and chose this statement flush-mount to be the star of the room (hehe star, get it?!)
We also did a lot of pattern and material mixing in here: floral wallpaper, woven baskets, patterned pillows, plaid rug, velvet curtains, and brass accents. All this carefully curated “mixing” creates warmth!
We chose to splurge on this boucle glider from Pottery Barn and I am so glad we did - it’s incredibly comfy! The acrylic shelves are functional without taking up too much space and allow the pretty picture books and wallpaper to shine.
One of the most special pieces of our nursery is the heirloom quilt my mom had made for Axel. It’s big enough for both of us to cuddle under on chilly evenings and I can’t wait for him to pass it down to his children one day.
This has quickly become one of our favorite and well-used spaces in the entire house — can you tell? With a layered mix of new and vintage items we created the timeless nursery I always dreamed of and I can’t wait to see it continue to evolve as Axel grows!
